Meghan McCain Tells Trump "No One Will Ever Love You Like They Loved My Father" In Response To Tweet Bashing John McCain's Role In Dossier And Obamacare Vote

President Donald Trump took posthumous aim at former Sen. John McCain via Twitter on Saturday, eliciting a response from Meghan McCain in defense of her father.

"Spreading the fake and totally discredited Dossier "is unfortunately a very dark stain against John McCain." Ken Starr, Former Independent Counsel," the tweet read. "He had far worse "stains" than this, including thumbs down on repeal and replace after years of campaigning to repeal and replace!"

Trump attributed the quote to Ken Starr, who led the Congressional investigation into the Clinton administration.

The tweet cited McCain's opposition to the repeal of Obamacare as a "far worse stain" on his legacy. A Republican, McCain voted against the GOP Senate majority during the attempt to repeal Obamacare in 2017.

McCain was a Vietnam War veteran and POW. He died in August 2018 after a months-long battle with brain cancer.

Meghan McCain, co-host on The View and the late senator's daughter, took to Twitter to defend her father's legacy, telling Trump "no one will love you" the way McCain was loved.

No one will ever love you the way they loved my father.... I wish I had been given more Saturday’s with him. Maybe spend yours with your family instead of on twitter obsessing over mine? https://t.co/q7ezwmHiQ4

Trump's tweet calling out McCain came within minutes of other tweets, in which the President called out General Motors, Google, Hillary Clinton and China.

This is not the first time Trump has bashed McCain since his death, nor is it the first time Meghan has come to her father's defense. Before Trump's Feb. 5 State of the Union address, she called Trump "pathetic" for allegedly making fun of her late father.

The president’s obsession with my father 6 months after his death is pathetic and telling - even at a time when he should be focusing on his message to the American public and the state of our union - the greatness of my father’s life and legacy haunts you. https://t.co/JLgHoZwCKD

Trump reportedly made fun of McCain during an off-the-record lunch with television news anchors.

During the meeting, Trump attacked Democrats and recited the moment when McCain voted against repealing the Affordable Care Act, according to The New York Times.

"By the way, he wrote a book and the book bombed," Trump said of McCain's book, "The Restless Wave," according to the Times.

CNN correspondent and outspoken Trump opponent Jim Acosta also took to Twitter, criticising the GOP for "shrugging its shoulders" at Trump's behavior toward past Republican presidential candidates.

Been covering Trump for three years now. Will never quite understand how the GOP tolerates his attacks on McCain, Bushes and Romney. The GOP just shrugs its shoulders.
