Lamont Marcell Jacobs has won the men's 100m Olympic final in Tokyo, succeeding Usain Bolt as champion.
Marcell Jacobs won the race with a time of 9.80 seconds, with U.S.'s Fred Kerley and Canada's Andre De Grasse in second and third with times of, 9.84 and 9.89, respectively.
The Italian also managed to bag a new personal best to go with his stunning 100M gold medal-winning run in Tokyo on Sunday.
He is the first European to win the Olympic 100m title since the Great Britain's Linford Christie at Barcelona 1992.
It is the first time since 2004 that someone other than Usain Bolt has won the gold medal in an Olympic men's 100m final.
Born in El Paso, Texas, to an American father and Italian mother, 26-year-old Jacobs has lived in Italy since he was a baby and currently resides in Rome.
His gold medal win is a first for Italy in the discipline and capped off a dramatic finish to the first 100m final of the post-Usain Bolt era.
The race got off to a rocky start with Great Britain's Zharnel Hughes being disqualified following a false start.
But, with the dash in full swing, Jacobs managed to hold off Kerley and De Grasse and powered home.
The finishing times for the other athletes who took part in the race were:

- Ronnie Baker (U.S.) 9.95
- Su Bingtian (China) 9.98
- Enoch Adegoke (Nigeria) DNF
- Zharnel Hughes (U.K.) DSQ.

China's Su Bingtian, who held the best qualifying time from the semi-finals, got off to a poor start. He is the first Chinese sprinter to make it to the 100m final.
Team USA's hotly tipped Trayvon Bromell, one of the fastest sprinters in 2021, missed out on the final after crashing out in the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, Bromwell's world champion former teammate Christian Coleman did not appear at the Tokyo Olympics after he missed a string of mandatory drugs tests.
Previous Gold medalist and current 100meter world record holder Bolt retired in 2017 following a glittering career, which saw him being widely considered to be the best sprinter of all time.
