Michelle Obama is set to release her "unusually intimate" memoir this November; the story of how "a little girl from the South Side of Chicago found her voice and developed the strength to use it to empower others."

The former first lady's book Becoming is set to hit the shelves on November 13, almost two years after her husband Barack Obama left office. The memoir will touch on her childhood as well as her time in the White House.

"Writing Becoming has been a deeply personal experience. It has allowed me, for the very first time, the space to honestly reflect on the unexpected trajectory of my life," said Obama in a statement.

"In this book, I talk about my roots and how a little girl from the South Side of Chicago found her voice and developed the strength to use it to empower others. I hope my journey inspires readers to find the courage to become whoever they aspire to be," she added.

The book's release is expected to see Obama take part in a nationwide and international promotional tour, with 1 million of the books donated to education charity First Book on behalf of the Obamas.

According to publisher Penguin Random House: "Becoming is an unusually intimate reckoning from a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations—and whose story inspires us to do the same," People reported.

The Financial Times reported last year that the rights for the Obamas' memoirs were set to sell for $60 million, with the couple writing separate books but selling the rights as one package.

However, although the deal was confirmed with Penguin Random House, no financial details were released, but it is thought the pair will donate a sizeable portion of the profits to charities including their own Obama Foundation.
