Michelle Williams is officially on board to play Janis Joplin in a biopic about the 1960s music star.
The actor, next to be seen in awards season favorite Manchester by the Sea, spoke about the part for the first time, admitting some nerves about playing the "Me and Bobby McGee" singer.
"I figure there's one good day in the life of an actor, which is when you get the job," Williams told E! News. "Before you get the job, you're like, 'Come on! I'm begging. I'm dying for this. I gotta have it!' You get the job and you're like, 'I got it! I'm so excited! I can't believe I'm going to get to do this.' And then you start worrying the next day. I'm in the worrying-the-next-day phase."
Williams was first rumored to play Joplin in director Sean Durkin's production Janis last month. She previously played Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn.
The film is based on a 1992 biography, Love, Janis, written by her sister Laura Joplin. The book incorporates letters the late singer wrote to family and friends about her experiences going from an unknown singer to becoming world famous.
Love, Janis previously served as the basis for a 1990s musical of the same name that celebrated Joplin's life and music.
Joplin died from a heroin overdose at the age of 27 in 1970.
