UPDATE: 3:58 p.m. EDT—The suspect in a shooting in Middleton, Wisconsin, has died after being shot by police, the Associated Press reported. There were no other suspects.
Three other people were injured.
UPDATE: 2:21 p.m. EDT—In an update regarding Wednesday's shooting, authorities said the suspect was shot by police and taken to a local hospital. No other suspects were being sought.
Police said the building in question was cleared and declared safe, and the public was not in danger. All lockdowns related to the shooting were lifted.
The motive for the shooting remained unclear, and the identities of the injured and the suspect had not yet been released.
UPDATE: 1:20 p.m. EDT—The suspect in Wednesday's shooting was taken into custody, WKOW-TV reported. Four people were injured, City Administrator Mike Davis told the Wisconsin State Journal.
"It appears the situation is stable now," Davis said. "The bad news is that there were four injured by the suspect."
The suspect was reportedly also injured, though it was unclear if their injuries were self-inflicted or if they were shot by police. The suspect was in critical condition, the Associated Press reported.
UPDATE: 12:53 p.m. EDT—A UW Health University Hospital official told NBC News the facility was anticipating receiving three patients as an active shooter situation unfolded in Middleton, Wisconsin, on Wednesday.
Police were escorting people away from what was still an active situation on Wednesday afternoon. Ambulances remained on the scene, though police had not confirmed whether there were any fatalities or the extent of injuries.

Police were responding to reports of an active shooter at an office building in Middleton, Wisconsin, on Wednesday. An emergency message from the Middleton Police Department said there was an "active shooter in the area." The Dane County Sheriff's Department also confirmed an active shooter situation, the Associated Press reported.
People were asked to stay inside, shelter in place and lock all doors. The reports of an active shooter were centered at the 1800 block of Deming Way, WISC-TV reported. Images from the scene showed swarms of police vehicles at the location. Companies including WTS Paradigm and Esker Software are located at 1850 Deming Way, the Wisconsin State Journal reported.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives branch in St. Paul announced on Twitter it was also responding to the scene. Nearby schools, including Middleton High School, Clark Street Community School, and Komrey Middle School were all on lockdown, according to WISC. Madison College also asked students on the West Campus to shelter in place.
"My heart goes out to the families of anyone who may have been hurt," Middleton Mayor Gurdip Brar told the State Journal. "The city will do everything we can to help them in this situation."
Middleton is located in Dane County, Wisconsin, and is a suburb of the state's capital, Madison.
