Miley Cyrus Meme Takes Off Online After Grammys Backlash

A Hannah Montana meme has gone viral following online backlash against Miley Cyrus' Grammy set.

The singer picked up two awards at Sunday's ceremony, held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

After Cyrus collected her Best Pop Solo Performance accolade, X user Jay posted a gif from Hannah Montana, the Disney channel sitcom that made Cyrus a star.

The gif shows a young Cyrus in character as Miley Stewart. Taken from the Season 3 episode "Miley Says Goodbye?" the teen exits her childhood home before looking longingly through the window. She then blows a kiss at the house and sadly waves goodbye.

"Miley leaving nicki and katy in the 0 grammy room," wrote Jay alongside the gif, which has received over 2.3 million views so far.

The "Nicki" in Jay's post is rapper Nicki Minaj. The 41-year-old has been nominated for 12 Grammys since 2011, but has yet to win an award. The "Katy" Jay mentions is singer Katy Perry, who has been nominated 13 times, but has also been snubbed.

The post had X users in hysterics, with @ablackwoman4 dubbing it: "The tweet of the year."

"I'm crying this is hilarious," commented @cartisrolex.

"SQUEALING," said @new_step_mom.

"This is so dirty," wrote Sahil while ejay said: "Shots fired."

Newsweek reached out to Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj for comment via email.

Others were stunned that this is Cyrus' first Grammy win, with @top10onlygirl writing: "She deserved more love."

"The fact that it took THIS long for miley to get a grammy is so ridiculous she should have twenty by now," said Liv.

Users were even more shocked that neither Minaj or Perry has won one of the coveted music awards.

"Wait no way this is how I find out Katy Perry doesn't have a Grammy. Like how is that possible she had 5 number 1 singles in ONE album," said Marie.

"Crazy right Katy is the only artist in the World with 8 diamond Certified Songs and Nicki has been the Queen of Rap for 15 yrs and counting..." wrote @queenThroatTx.

"I just know their time will come also cause NICKI having 0 it's INSANE," said Maira.

Cyrus was nominated for six awards at this year's Grammys, winning Best Pop Solo Performance and Record of the Year for her song Flowers.

She was also nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album in 2015 and Album of the Year in 2022.

Following her win for Best Pop Solo Performance, the 31-year-old took to the stage to perform Flowers. However, her rendition divided viewers.

Some criticized the pop star's "forced" and "awkward" moves, while others praised Cyrus for her "infectious" enthusiasm and willingness to "have fun" on stage.

Cyrus chastised the Grammys' audience for their apathy during her set, asking attendees: "Why you acting like you don't know this song?"

Nevertheless, the crowd's attitude changed when Cyrus decided to celebrate her first-ever win mid-performance.

Usually, Cyrus would sing: "Started to cry, but then remembered," before launching into the chorus. Instead, Cyrus belted out "then remembered, I just won my first Grammy," with the audience breaking into rapturous applause.
