Millennial Can't Cope With 00s Accessory She Still Owns Making Comeback

The latest in a long line of 2000s trends that have been revived by Gen Zers—much to the dismay of millennials—are gladiator belts.

One TikTok user 'announced' that the mid-2000s style staple had resurfaced in U.S. shopping malls, through a comedic social-media video shared to the platform six days ago.

"This is an actual photo on the American Eagle website right now," Jenna Barclay (@jennaabarclay), a content creator, said.

Barclay pointed towards an overlayed image of an American Eagle model in a vest top and long bohemian skirt. The woman had styled a gladiator belt over the outfit.

"2005 boho comeback! Listen, if you're gonna wear this wear this, but I'm gonna need to see some commitment okay?" Barclay said.

She then put on a cropped bolero jacket, a large studded bag and wide sunglasses to complete her 2000s-themed look. The hilarious video played against Sugarcult's 2004 release "Champagne" for the ultimate mid-2000s experience.

The content creator has amassed more than 477,000 followers through her comedy clips that poke fun at some of the most-cringeworthy and nonsensical trends of the past few decades.

"I love it lets be honest," Barclay captioned the post.

Gladiator belts, known for their bold aesthetic yet often impractical design, were part of a broader trend towards bohemian style that took the early millennium's fashion landscape by storm.

What Do the Comments Say?

Although the accessory was all the rage two decades ago, opinions under Barclay's video have been divided over whether the trend can hold up today.

"How do you still have that," @dogmomlt85 asked Barclay.

"I remember it took a sharp turn into bag lady chic after this, let's give it a year," @lacyalaskan added.

"I'm all for the boho comeback! Got myself a new white peasant skirt last summer," @snarkybogwitch shared.

"This was my signature outfit," @thehirts posted.

"I had the belt your wearing. Kinda wish I'd kept it if it's coming back," @blondepeach38 commented.

"The mint green resurgence is right around the corner," @thepinkteeshirt wrote, referencing yet another 2000s trend.

As the fashion cycle continues to spin, the revival of past trends like the gladiator belt offers a nostalgic nod to the playful excess of the 2000s. Whether they're seen as a fashion hit or miss, their return is a testament to the timeless allure of turning back the clock in style.
