A shiny, new version of Minecraft just hit the Nintendo Switch eShop. The biggest change in the new version of Minecraft on Switch is the ability to play with gamers on Xbox One, PC (via Windows 10) and mobile devices. To celebrate, a new trailer showing off the feature has been released and can be watched above.
In the trailer, we see a gamer on a Switch and one holding an Xbox One controller. Both players are in the same game of Minecraft and can help each other and interact together. The trailer ends with the message "Create Together, Explore Together, Survive Together, Better Together."
The new cross-platform enabled version of Minecraft for Switch is now available to download for $30. If you already purchased Minecraft on Switch, you'll be able to download the upgraded version for free from the eShop. Worlds created in the old version can also be transferred to the new version, but it might take some time. Players will also need to create a Microsoft account if they don't already have one.
Also new to this version of Minecraft is the in-game shop, new mini games and game modes on Servers, and the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack. A handful of other texture packs and skin packs are also included. A full list can be found here.
Unfortunately, the PS4 isn't invited to the Minecraft cross-platform party. Sony has notoriously refused to cooperate with Microsoft and Nintendo, meaning it gets left out. The Switch version of Minecraft works with Xbox One, mobile and Windows 10 PC users only.
