Mom Accused of Killing 15-Month-Old Daughter, Stabbing Husband, Teenager in Attack

A mother from South Florida is accused of killing her toddler and stabbing her husband and teenage daughter Monday night, local news reported.

A motive as to why the woman, whose name has not been released, allegedly attacked her family is not yet known, WPLG-TV, a Miami-based television news station reported.

After she was stabbed, the suspect's 16-year-old daughter, escaped the home and went to a neighbor's house to call 911. The Miami-Dade Police Department received multiple 911 calls from both inside the home and from the neighbor's house at about 9 p.m, WPLG reported.

The woman's 38-year-old husband was found injured in the yard of their West Little River home, The Miami Herald reported. West Little River is an area northwest of Miami.

The couple's four other children were in the house at the time, all of them younger than 11-years-old. They were able to run out of the house without being injured, according to the Herald.

They are currently staying with other family members, according to WPLG.

Both the woman's teenage daughter and husband were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital with injuries described as "serious." The mother was taken into custody without incident, She had apparent-self inflicted injuries and was taken to Jackson Trauma Center, according to WPLG.

She is facing "very serious criminal charges," the Herald reported.

"It is unclear what sparked this violence," Police Spokesperson Alvaro Zabaleta told the Herald. "It's a very sad day when a 15-month old loses her life to domestic violence, but considering there were six children in the house, this could have been much worse."

Police did not provide the nature of the 15-month-old's injuries.

"Once they went into the house and they were able to find the 15-month old. She was in serious condition suffering from injuries, and they immediately gave them to fire rescue personnel that was on the scene and transported her via ground to Jackson North, where, unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries," Zabaleta said to WTVJ-TV, the area's NBC affiliate.

Police were investigating at the scene into the morning.

"They're processing all of the evidence, they're gathering statements from people that were around, and again we're allowing the victims, in this case, to receive medical treatment to be able to talk to them to see exactly what was it that flared this up," Zabaleta said to WTVJ.

Newsweek reached out to the Miami-Dade Police Department for comment Tuesday morning but had not heard back by publication time. This article will be updated with any response.
