A group of college friends were shocked to read how much a revolving-belt sushi restaurant charged them for dinner, while they were expecting to pay no more than $70.
In a post shared on TikTok earlier in April under the username leon.aa, the four friends can be seen reacting to the hefty bill, which they told Newsweek came as a surprise to them after picking up plates from the belt all night, not realizing the price of each plate.

A caption shared along with the post explained: "POV: you kept grabbing plates at a revolving sushi restaurant without checking the price of each plate and finally get the bill." Followed by: "It was in fact not $70."
The poster told Newsweek that to their surprise they were charged over $200 for their dinner, which they thought was very expensive for the quality of the restaurant.
She said: "We ate 40 plates although some only had one piece on them. We mainly picked out raw fish and other things such as Tamago.
"We were primarily surprised by the price because ultimately it's conveyor belt sushi and we've paid half the price at regular restaurants for amazing quality sushi including drinks and appetizers. The prices also weren't easily displayed.
"At the end of the day, it's just a silly, in-the-moment video moment I captured with my friends, we're just having fun!"
Average Sushi Prices in the U.S.
Research by HappySpicyHour found that in general a sushi dinner at an "average" quality restaurant costs between $20 to $30 per person before tax and tip, however, prices can soar up to $50 to $100 for more high-end places, and sometimes even go over $750 for special chef's menus.
Location also impacts prices, too. The most expensive areas to eat sushi are New York, Los Angeles, and Miami.
The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 12.9 million views and 1.3 million likes on the platform.
One user, Apple User423486, commented: "Noo yall don't get the principle. when did it start to be acceptable to pay 50$ for mid food."
Dadcos said: "Everyone saying that's normal?? My partner and I spend $40 (26 USD) at a sushi train, 200 usd for 4 IS whack damn." And Moo added: "I work in a restaurant and honestly $200 is a basic bill for a family of 4 [right now]."
