Updated | Teen Mom producer Morgan J. Freeman sometimes gets confused for the Oscar winner with the same name. This was especially true on Thursday after eight women accused Se7en actor Morgan Freeman of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior.
Morgan J. Freeman, the MTV producer, took to Twitter to clear up the discrepancy. "Today feels like a good day to remind everyone that I am not the actor," he tweeted.
In his Twitter bio, he has a similar message: "Filmmaker, TV producer, husband, activist & father. Fierce opposer of Trump. Big fan of snacks. Not the actor!"
Aside from being confused with the Hollywood star, Morgan J. Freeman is best known for producing the hit MTV reality show Teen Mom and its spinoffs, Teen Mom 2 and 16 and Pregnant. Before he got involved with MTV, he produced '90s films like Hurricane Streets, Desert Blue and Welcome to the Dollhouse.
After tweeting that he was not the actor, Morgan J. Freeman promptly went back to tweeting about President Donald Trump.
Morgan Freeman, the 80-year-old actor, issued an apology: "I apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected—that was never my intent."
In total, 16 people talked to CNN about the alleged sexual harassment and misconduct: eight said they were victims and the other eight said they were witnesses.
One woman claimed Freeman touched her inappropriately and would make lewd comments when she worked on the set of Going In Style as a production assistant in 2015. Freeman "kept trying to lift up my skirt and asking if I was wearing underwear," she told CNN Thursday.
He never lifted her skirt, but he kept trying. The alleged victim said she would move away and he would attempt to lift the garment again. One time, actor Alan Arkin got involved. "Alan [Arkin] made a comment telling him to stop," she said. "Morgan got freaked out and didn't know what to say."
Morgan Freeman the actor is best known for films such as Shawshank Redemption, Invictus, Driving Miss Daisy and Million Dollar Baby. He has been in Hollywood for nearly five decades but rose to stardom in the early '90s.
Aside from his films, Freeman is arguably best known for this voice work, with many considering him the narrator of our generation. Twitter users were shocked by the allegations and took to the social media site to express their disappointment.
This story has been updated to include a statement from Morgan Freeman the actor.
