Mother Shot Dead Near Memorial For Teen Son Fatally Gunned Down Days Before

A Chicago mother was shot dead just yards away from her son's memorial where she planned to light a candle for him, according to reports.

Delisa Tucker had been on her way to attend the memorial for her son Kevin Tinker, 14, shot dead over the weekend in Roseland, when she herself was fatally gunned down early Wednesday morning.

She was shot in the chest and died on the sidewalk close to the memorial, and was found by officers at about 12:15 a.m., according to Fox 32.

Pastor Donovan Price, who told the network he consoled the grieving mother during a vigil on Sunday, said: "It's just sad that this whole family, basically, to be killed over time. I'm devastated."

Price said he had assisted Tucker after her daughter, who was six at the time, was injured in a shooting several years ago.

He told Fox 32: "You try to help people so that maybe their lives change. I become part of the family of the people I help."

Tucker's son, Kevin, died after being shot several times while he was stood at the same sidewalk.

He had been standing in front of a home that had been targeted earlier that day, Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan told Fox 32.

A family friend has since organized a GoFundMe page in order to cover burial and funeral costs.

In a statement, the organizer said: "This world is so cold. She lost her mother and brother last year, and now this. I would like to help but I can't do it alone and her family wasn't big.

"So, I come to you today asking if you can find it in your hearts to donate anything. It would help and be well appreciated.

"Everything you donate will go to their funeral and burial. She leaves behind five other kids. I don't want her or her son's body to be sitting for too long so please help me give her and her son a proper home."

As of Thursday morning, the GoFundMe page had amassed more than $5,900 out of a $25,000 goal.

Chicago continues to suffer an epidemic of gun violence, with police attempting to combat gangs.

According to The Sun-Times data, Roseland alone has seen 26 deaths in 2021, and the Calumet police district, which includes Roseland, has recorded 61 homicides this year.

The Gun Violence Archive, which documents shootings across the U.S., also found that 104 people aged 18 and under were fatally gunned down in Chicago between January 1 to November 24 this year.
