My Elf Instagram Challenge Inspires Celebrity Takes on Elf on the Shelf Meme

"My Elf" is an Instagram challenge that has inspired Reese Witherspoon's "Grease on the Reese" and Garcelle Beauvais' "Garcelle on the Pharrell," as celebrities share their very on Elf on the Shelf memes.

The Elf on the Shelf challenge is a fun Christmas activity for families that sees them hide an elf in various locations around the home, keeping a watchful eye over the children before reporting back to Santa.

The challenge has also inspired memes, with clever social media users coming up with puns and jokes that typically follow the following structure: "You've heard of elf on the shelf but have you heard of..."

Now, celebrities are getting involved in the My Elf challenge, coming up with their own puns and rhymes, bringing us captions like "Oprah on the Chopra" and "Pope on the Knope."

Last week, Garcelle Beauvais reposted a photoshopped image of herself sitting on Pharrell's shoulder which was originally posted by Instagram account @themorganletters_.

Inspired by Beauvais, Elizabeth Banks joined in and shared an image of Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump perched on her shoulder and said: "I know you've all heard of Elf on a Shelf, but have you heard of..."

Reese Witherspoon shared an image of John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John in Grease dancing on her shoulder and said: "Oh hey @elizabethbanks! I see your Hanks-on-Banks and I raise you a Grease-on-Reese"

Jennifer Garner jumped on the trend and shared a photo of Sean Penn on her shoulder and said: "Hey, @reesewitherspoon @elizabethbanks—did you challenge me? I'm pretty sure you did"

Kerry Washington joined in and posted an image of her as Olivia Pope in scandal sitting on an image of Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope in Parks and Recreation.

Jimmy Fallon added Timothée (or Timmy) Chalamet to his shoulder, captioning his Instagram post: "Timmy on Jimmy. PS - Break a leg on @nbcsnl this weekend @tchalamet!"

Priyanka Chopra joined in the My Elf trend by placing Oprah Winfrey on her shoulder.

Queen Elizabeth II was photoshopped into an image with Cara Delevigne, who captioned her image: "Had to. The Queen on Delevingne," tagging Witherspoon, Garner, and Banks.

Why not take part in the My Elf challenge yourself in the run up to Christmas? Simply come up with a celebrity, movie, or TV show that rhymes with either your first or last name, and with some quick editing, you'll have your very own celebrity-approved meme to share on Instagram and Facebook.
