Nancy Pelosi's Neighbor Robbed at Gunpoint Months Before Husband's Attack

A real estate mogul who lives in the same neighborhood as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was robbed at gunpoint months before her husband, Paul, was attacked in his San Francisco home on Friday.

In a statement Friday, Nancy Pelosi's spokesperson, Drew Hammill, said that "an assailant broke into the Pelosi residence in San Francisco and violently assaulted Mr. Pelosi.

"The assailant is in custody and the motivation for the attack is under investigation. Mr. Pelosi was taken to the hospital, where he is receiving excellent medical care and is expected to make a full recovery. The Speaker was not in San Francisco at the time."

In June, Hamid Moghadam, the CEO of the San Francisco-based real estate company Prologis, was reportedly robbed at gunpoint in front of his home, which is in the same neighborhood where the Pelosis live.

Moghadam told the San Francisco Business Times in July that the incident occurred as he was arriving home in Pacific Heights, San Francisco. San Francisco police said that the attack on Paul Pelosi occurred at a residence on the 2600 block of Broadway, which is in the Pacific Heights neighborhood.

Following the attack on Pelosi's husband, political scientist Ian Bremmer wrote on Twitter that the incident "comes just a few months after my friend (and pelosi's next door neighbor) hamid moghadam was robbed at gun point in front of his house." Newsweek has been unable to independently verify that the two are next-door neighbors.

"This car comes out. The guy jumps out with a hoodie and a gun...His friend comes out with another gun." Moghadam told the San Francisco Business Times, adding that the two suspects stole his Patek Philippe watch.

"They were using a bunch of choice words. Mostly starting with 'm' and 'f.' They were attacking me," Moghadam said. "It happened so fast that I didn't have time to get scared."

According to the San Francisco Business Times, Moghadam was informed by San Francisco police officers that the suspects were following him, but it is unclear if any arrests were made. Newsweek reached out to San Francisco police for updated information on the June incident.

Newsweek was directed to Moghadam's interview with the San Francisco Business Times after reaching out to Prologis for comment.

Over the past several months San Francisco has seen a rise in some crimes. According to data from the San Francisco Police Department, since the start of 2022, overall crime has increased by 7.4 percent compared to the same period in 2021. The data shows that while the number of homicides are down, other crimes such as assault and larceny theft have increased over the past year.
