Who was John Christopher Ludwick? The Man Who Said He Helped Dispose of Natalee Holloway's Body Found Dead

A man who claimed he helped Joran van der Sloot dispose of Natalee Holloway's body is dead.

John Christopher Ludwick, 32, was stabbed to death on Tuesday after he tried to kidnap a woman from her car, according to police.

"We have identified 32-year-old John Christopher Ludwick (05/29/1985) of Port Charlotte as the man who died as a result of stab wounds this morning," North Port police wrote in a post on the department's Facebook page.

Ludwick was formerly roommates with the woman whom he attempted to kidnap. He wanted to have a romantic relationship with her, but she did not reciprocate those feelings, North Port spokesperson Joshua Taylor told CBS News.

Taylor said that while she was getting out of her car trying to get into her home, Ludwick ambushed her. She was able to retrieve the knife from Ludwick after a struggle and stabbed him in the abdomen, according to police.

"A struggle ensued and he is the one who ended up stabbed. He then fled the area on foot. He was found nearby suffering from the stab wound. After being transported by air he was pronounced dead at a local hospital," the statement read.

The news of Ludwick's death comes just a few months after he appeared in the Oxygen television series The Disappearance of Natalee Holloway. Ludwick said that Van der Sloot paid him $1,500 to bury and cremate the 18-year-old's remains.

Natalee Holloway vanished during her high school graduation trip to Aruba in 2005. Despite being the last person to be seen with the 18-year-old, van der Sloot was not charged with her death. He was later convicted of killing a woman in Peru in 2010, where he remains in prison.

"The idea was to crush everything to the point where it wasn't recognizable as her bones or skull or anything like that," Ludwick said during the show.

In October, a forensic scientist who tested the bones Ludwick burned said they did not belong to the 18-year-old.

Police contacted the authorities who have been investigating Holloway's case.

"We are aware of Mr. Ludwick's history and comments surrounding the disappearance of Natalee Ann Holloway in Aruba during May of 2005," North Port police said in the Facebook post. "The correct authorities who are working that case have been notified."
