National Burrito Day: Where To Get Free Food

April 4 marks National Burrito Day, so it's time for burrito lovers to unite and seek out the best deals to celebrate the food holiday all day long.

Burritos first became popular thousands of years ago in what is now Mexico. The exact origin is unclear, but scholars suggest the dish first appeared as a way to wrap and transport food but is now a tasty way to combine several filling proteins and toppings.

Now a staple across restaurant menus nationwide, many chains are getting behind the holiday and offering their own special deals and freebies.

Newsweek has compiled a full list of all the offerings you should take advantage of before the day's end.

Breakfast and burger chain Farmer Boys is serving up its Breakfast Burrito for just $5 all day long in honor of National Burrito Day. The meal is served with three cage-free eggs, American cheese, crispy hash browns, salsa and your choice of hickory-smoked bacon, pork sausage, diced ham or scratch-made all-beef chili.

Just keep in mind, the Farmer Boys deal is only available at participating locations while supplies last, and it can't be combined with any other discount or coupon. It's also not valid on delivery or mobile orders.

Mexican fast casual QDOBA is also getting in on the action this National Burrito Day as it is offering rewards members a free burrito with the purchase of any entree and drink.

And fear not if you aren't already a rewards member because you can easily sign up on the QDOBA website to get the deal.

Other surefire deals are available at El Pollo Loco. On April 1, the chain offered zero delivery fee on all orders placed through the Loco Rewards app or the ElPolloLoco.com website.

Meanwhile, the next day, April 2, customers saw a $10 bonus card for every $50 eGift card purchased online.

Yesterday, the chain also gave out exclusive redemption codes for free burritos or a specific percentage off a burrito purchase.

Finally, today, on National Burrito Day, Loco Rewards members can get a buy-one-get-one free burrito to fully celebrate the holiday.

"We're thrilled to offer our customers four days of exciting deals to celebrate National Burrito Day," Jill Adams, El Pollo Loco's chief marketing officer, said in a statement "With five different burrito options, we're sure to satisfy everyone's cravings. Join us in celebrating and indulging in the ultimate burrito experience!"

Beyond the already announced deals, diners should consider calling up their local Taco Bell, Chipotle and Moe's as well.

In 2023, all three chains offered their own versions of burrito day deals.

Chipotle gave away 20,000 free burritos through the Grubhub app as the fast casual looked to celebrate one of its most popular menu items the day before the national holiday.

Meanwhile, on actual National Burrito Day, 10,000 free burritos were given away on Twitter, and all burrito orders were delivered free by using the DELIVER promo code.

Taco Bell also gave away its Grilled Cheese Burrito on all $20 or higher purchases in the Taco Bell app, while delivery orders also got a free burrito with the same minimum order on DoorDash, Uber Eats, Postmates and Grubhub.

Those who favored Moe's for their burrito needs could also get half off when they purchased a second burrito either through the website, app or directly in stores.
