National Popcorn Day: Where to Get Free Food

Friday marks National Popcorn Day, and many movie theaters are using the holiday to offer special deals and freebies to customers.

From Cinemark to AMC, your local theater could have some special deals you can take advantage of if Friday is prone to be your movie night.

Newsweek compiled the full list of deals to take advantage of today.

One deal is available at Cinemark, where customers will be able to score $2 off a medium or large order of popcorn.

But the chain is also giving away large orders of popcorn for free on Instagram and X. Five random people will be chosen to receive a $10 digital gift card for the large order of popcorn.

Moviegoers also have the chance of winning free popcorn and Coke for a year. Specifically, they can be chosen to earn a $170 digital gift card.

There's plenty of other popcorn to go around for rewards members as well because a members-only sweepstakes is giving a $500 Cinemark gift card to a lucky individual.

Meanwhile, Texas-based Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas is giving away free large bowls of popcorn at every screening throughout Friday. All you need to do to score the deal is buy a movie ticket and spend $5 on food and beverages.

Another deal is at AMC Theaters, which provides free refills on any size popcorn throughout the entire day. Competitor Regal Cinemas is also giving guests 50 percent off all popcorn for today only.

And EVO Entertainment theaters also have free popcorn available in regular-size portions, with no movie ticket purchase necessary.

Some specialty popcorn shops are also getting in on the action.

Chicago's Garrett Popcorn stores are discounting small bags of popcorn at a price of $1.75. The deal is available all week, from January 15 to January 21.

There are several flavors, from Buttery, Cheese Corn, CaramelCrisp and Garrett Mix available.

More Deals

Beyond National Popcorn Day, there are several other food-related holidays that offer you the chance to get some savings on your next purchase.

From National Pizza Day to Bagel Day, there's nearly a day for every type of foodie.

Beyond these holidays, though, the best way to score a restaurant freebie is by signing up for restaurants' loyalty or rewards programs. This way, you can typically score a birthday meal and earn reward points that can potentially go to your next purchase.

You should also look at your receipt before throwing it in the trash the next time you're at a restaurant. Many receipts hold secret deals and coupons if you fill out a survey.
