Who Invented Wine?
"The first 'wine' was probably made by accident, i.e. grape juice or crushed grapes, left someplace warm, fermented," Lisa M Airey, education director, Wine Scholar Guild, told Newsweek. "A wine in full ferment produces carbon dioxide so the liquid would have been moving as if in a boil. The ancients thought it was alive or imbued with spirit thus giving birth to the spirit industry.
"This is a moniker that has never changed over time. Interestingly, mankind was making wine for centuries before we even knew what initiated the process. Fermentation was not linked to yeast until 1857."
