Neighbors Spark Debate for Wanting to Call Cops Over Man's Doorbell Antics

A woman has revealed her neighbors are planning to call the police on her husband, for pulling silly faces at their doorbell camera.

In a post shared on Mumsnet on Monday, under the username woppsiedobags, she wrote that her husband has twice joked around in front of their new neighbors' doorbell camera, each time for around 2 to 5 seconds.

She explained that what he does not "nudity or swearing or anything, just fooling around", but their neighbors do not appreciate their humor and have told the poster they are plan to call the police about him because they "fear for their safety."

A national Xcelerant survey for Fathom Realty of more than 1,000 adults found that 86 percent of Americans like their neighbors. It is a sentiment that remains popular across all major demographics, including age, sex, race, and even political party.

Those who do not like their neighbors said their reasons are based on them being too noisy, 50 percent; not respecting boundaries, 38 percent; and being nosy, 37 percent.

Another study, by Pew Research Center, found that 57 percent of American adults know only some of their neighbors; and far fewer, just 26 percent, know most of them.

About two-thirds of Americans who know at least some of their neighbors would feel comfortable asking to leave a set of keys with them for emergencies.

Residents in rural areas are more likely than those in suburban and urban regions to know all or most of their neighbors, but they aren't more likely to interact with them.

Among the 459 users who commented on the thread, some believed woppsiedobags' husband was acting childishly, while others thought their neighbors are just boring.

One user, TrianglePlayer wrote: "As long as it's not nudity/threatening etc I think your neighbors are overreacting, even if it's not funny."

Thurlow asked: "What the hell did he do that's made them fear for their lives?!" while JubileeTissues wrote: "Probably in fear of cringing to death. He sounds juvenile. How embarrassing."

Lauralizzie wrote: "This is ridiculous. If he was just pratting about [being silly] and not acting in a threatening manner, the police are going to tell them they are wasting their time. Sorry, you have such boring annoying neighbors. If someone did that on my ring bell, I would find it actually funny."

LookItsMeAgain wrote: "You BOTH should go around and HE should apologize. He's an adult so shouldn't need anyone to apologize on his behalf. Don't bring flowers etc. as that's unnecessary. He should grow up too!"
