Netflix, Amazon and Hulu August 2017 New Releases

Streaming platforms made an impressive showing in the 2017 list of Emmy nominations, announced in mid-July.

Netflix original content garnered a striking 91 nominations, up from 54 the previous year and trailing behind only HBO for the platform with the most nominations. Amazon held its ground with another 16 nods, and Hulu got 18, up from two in 2016. That's all to say that there is plenty worth watching.

Netflix's August releases include the series Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later, Marvel's The Defenders, and Disjointed; the documentary Icarus; and stand-up comedy specials from Maz Jobrani, Brad Paisley and Lynne Koplitz. Amazon has the series Comrade Detective, Lost in Oz and The Tick, while Hulu has the third season of Difficult People.

In addition to originals, viewers can catch movies including The Matrix, Center Stage, Finding Forrester, Saving Private Ryan and Superbad.
