Netflix made the announcement Wednesday of the start of production for Season 2 of Sex Education. Audiences were able to catch a glimpse of the cast's first table read, which included Emma Mackey (Maeve Wiley), Asa Butterfield (Otis Milburn), Aimee Lou Wood (Aimee Gibbs), Gillian Anderson (Dr. Jean F. Milburn), Connor Swindells (Adam Groff), Ncuti Gatwa (Eric Effiong) and more.
While this was a momentous time for Sex Education fans, fans of another show took the opportunity to express their anger in the comment section.
"This is great, but let's not forget about season 4 of Santa Clarita Diet, @morgan_chapman3 commented on the Instagram post Wednesday.
"Hi Netflix I just want to say that I HATE YOU FOR CANCELING SANTA CLARITA DIET, okay that's it, bye," @poisonwormz added.
"Hey this show is cool and all but SANTA CLARITA DIET NEEDS A SEASON FOUR RN," @katharren concluded.
The show, which is often coined as the "Drew Barrymore zombie show," was unexpectedly canceled Saturday after running for three seasons.
"The world had never known a 'zom-com' until Santa Clarita Diet, and we're indebted to creator Victor Fresco for bringing this idea to Netflix," Netflix said in a statement. "To their endless credit, the incredible Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant were totally game, with an uncanny knack for comedy that brought Sheila and Joel Hammond to vibrant life, even though one of them was undead."
"We're grateful to Victor, Drew, and Timothy, along with fellow executive producers Tracy Katsky, Aaron Kaplan, Chris Miller and Ember Truesdell and the terrific cast, including Liv Hewson and Skyler Gisondo, and crew for three hilarious seasons for Netflix members to discover for years to come," the statement concluded.
The zombie-based comedy was first announced in March 2016 and immediately garnered a cult following. Following the cancellation, Barrymore and co-star Timothy Olyphant (Joel) responded to the news via an Instagram caption of the official page of the Netflix original.
"Of all of the characters I've ever been, Sheila Hammond is one of my favorites. She and Joel were an amazing couple, who had shared goals," Barrymore wrote. "And I am lucky to have worked alongside Tim Olyphant. It was an honor to get to do something so delightful. Sheila lives forever in me. And I am grateful to Victor Fresco, who created a world so unique."
"I loved working on this show," Olyphant explained. "I'm going to continue coming in and doing scenes. If they don't want to film it, that's up to them."
