Based on the comic book series by Joe Hill, Netflix's Locke and Key is about a bereaved family who seek solace in the childhood home of their late father and husband, Rendell Locke.
Upon arrival at Keyhouse, however, it becomes apparent that all is not what it seems. Several mysteries are brewing under the surface—not the least of which concerns a magical set of keys.
Following the success of the first season, the fantasy series is back for a second helping.
But in case you've forgotten, here's a guide to the main keys we've seen in Locke and Key so far.
What Every Key Does in Netflix's Locke and Key
The Anywhere Key
As the name suggests, the Anywhere Key allows the user to transport to any location their heart desires… well, sort of. There is one catch: in order for the key to work, the person using it has to have seen the door to their destination IRL. It is for this reason that it doesn't work when Kinsey tries to use it to go to the Eiffel Tower in Paris, because she's never visited the tourist attraction before.
The Echo Key
The Echo Key enables users to conjure an "echo" of the dead. It is through this key that Ellie accidentally summons Dodge, as she tries to resurrect her late childhood lover Lucas, who never returned to Earth.
The Ghost Key
Complete with spooky skull design, the Ghost Key enables users to turn into an apparition, but it has to be inserted into a specific door in Keyhouse—which must also remain open during the process, otherwise the user is trapped as a ghoul. You may be wondering why you would want to use this key, but there are some benefits, including being able to converse with other ghosts and fly around.
The Head Key
One can access thoughts and memories using the Head Key, simply by inserting it into the back of the person's skull. Pretty nifty when you need some vital, code-breaking information.
The Matchstick Key
This key does what it says on the tin: it creates fire. In the Netflix series, it is initially in Mark Cho's possession, but after learning about Rendell's death, he stabs himself with the key, before he and his house combust into flames.
The Mirror Key
This key becomes a prominent part in the Season 1 finale, as it is used by Dodge to impersonate Ellie. She also uses it to morph into Kinsey's boyfriend, Gabe.
The Music Box Key
Like a siren on the rocks, the Music Box Key can used to manipulate others. The bearer simply has to whisper the name of their target and they can then control that person's movements and thoughts.
The Omega Key
Not only is the Omega Key the original of the entire set, it's also the most powerful. Whomever is in possession of the Omega Key can use it to open the Black Door in the sea caves.
After Dodge morphs into Ellie with the Mirror Key, the kids mistakenly throw the real Ellie into the fiery pit on the other side. Only time will tell if she makes it back alive—after all, that's where Dodge came from.
