New Orleans Cops Arrest Man Suspected of Shooting Elvis Impersonator Jason Baglio Dead

Police investigating the murder of Jason Baglio, an Elvis Presley impersonator, have arrested a suspect in connection with his fatal shooting.

Officers arrested Trace Piggot, 28, on suspicion of being involved in the murder of Baglio, a Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office (LSPO) spokesman said on Saturday.

According to the police statement, officers raced to Homestead Drive in Denham Springs, Louisiana, after they were alerted to reports of a shooting.

Sheriff Jason Ard said on Saturday: "This all unfolded around 3:30 [p.m.] this morning. Deputies located the victim's body - identified as Jason Baglio.

"Baglio was shot multiple times and would die due to his injuries. Through evidence obtained at the scene, LSPO detectives would name 28-year-old Trace Piggot as the shooter. Piggot fled the scene before deputies arrived.

"He was tracked to the New Orleans area where he was apprehended by New Orleans police officers."

The statement added that Pigott's father, 53-year-old Tommy Ray, was also "determined to be present when Baglip was killed."

"He also fled the scene along with Trace Piggot. Detectives are still tracking his whereabouts," it said.

Piggot had been held in the Orleans Parish Prison on several charges and that when he is transported back to Livingston Parish, he would be charged with second-degree murder.

Tributes have been paid to Baglio, who performed under the name Jayson Alfano.

"I'm in shock that your life has been taken. You were such a nice man and the best Elvis I've seen," one commenter wrote on Baglio's Facebook page.

"I'll never forget you being the star at my birthday party 1 ½ years ago. I loved watching you perform. I know you are leading God's choir now."

A second added: "All my prayers, love and condolences to the Jaysons family.. He will be missed. Such a sweet man and great entertainer."

Another wrote simply: "We will miss you...so much fun we had...RIP Elvis."

A GoFundMe page which said was organized by Baglio's family was set up in the hours following his death. As of Sunday morning, more than $2,060 had been raised out of a target of $15,000.

Officers said the investigation into Baglio's murder continues. Police did not comment on a possible motive for the killing.

The LSPO said anyone with information, including about Tommy Ray's whereabouts, has been encouraged to call the force at 225-686-2241 x1 or the Greater Baton Rouge Crime Stoppers at 225-344-STOP.
