Are the Rolling Stones going to release a new album in 2016? Guitarist Ronnie Wood has let slip the legendary rockers have recorded new material that could be out by year's end.

The music could be something of a departure from their usual sound as Wood teased he, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Charlie Watts "got on a blues streak" in the studio.

"We went in to cut some new songs, which we did. But we got on a blues streak. We cut 11 blues in two days," he told Associated Press. "They are extremely great cover versions of Howlin' Wolf and Little Walter, among other blues people. But they really sound authentic."

Asked when fans can expect new material, he added: "This year."

However, a spokesperson for the group tells Newsweek the newly recorded music is "still very much at the demo stage" and no release date has been set.

Bandmate Richards was less forthcoming with details, though he did appear to confirm a album is on its way. "There's one coming. I can't say no more. My lips are sealed," he said.

The new LP would mark their first since 2005's A Bigger Bang, which was accompanied by a two-year tour between 2005 and 2007 that grossed a staggering $500,000,000.

In total, the group has released 22 albums in its native U.K. and 24 in the U.S.

The Stones recently performed a landmark free gig in Cuba and celebrated the launch of a new exhibition about their half-century career at London's Saatchi Gallery.
