Comic fans received a surprise via Twitter Sunday when a new teaser trailer was released for DC's upcoming film, Shazam!
The newest comic-inspired film will not hit theaters until April 5; however, the never-before-seen footage is getting fans pumped for the newest addition to Warner Brothers' DC Universe.
Following the story of Billy Batson, played by 16-year-old Asher Angel, who is chosen to harness the power of a crime-fighting superhero–but only by uttering the magic word: "Shazam."
The teaser only shows quick glimpses into the world of Shazam, but it looks to includes flying over the city, saving falling buses and fighting the world's wickedest scientist, Doctor Sivana.
"I love it," one Twitter user wrote. "Take my money now."
"I watched the transformation over and over, it's just so well done," another fan added. "The slight drop before flight begins, the smoke shifting, so perfect."
Fans got their first look of the hero back in July with the release of the first full-length trailer and suit-reveal via Entertainment Weekly. The magazine spoke with director David Sandberg about the look, which includes nods to all the characters appearances both in the comic books and in animated shows; the hood, the lightning bolt across the chest, and gold gauntlets.
"I wanted to keep the shorter cape as a throwback to the original because that's something that sets him apart from Superman or Batman," Sandberg said. "It makes him feel a bit more Golden Age superhero, which is the vibe I'm going for."
The film looks to have a big act to follow after the release of Aquaman. Starring Jason Momoa, the movie first hit theatres December 21 and joined the billion-dollar club nearly a month later, being only the third DC movie to cross the $1 billion mark.
DC movies have previously struggled to match the success of various Marvel films, who have had six superhero movies break a billion dollars: Avengers: Infinity War ($2.048 billion), The Avengers ($1.519 billion), Avengers: Age of Ultron ($1.405 billion), Black Panther($1.347 billion), Iron Man 3 ($1.215 billion) and Captain America: Civil War ($1.153 billion), according to The Hollywood Reporter.
