New York City Marathon 2018: Route Map, Start Times and Road Closures

The TCS New York City marathon is all set to kick off on Sunday. Residents and visitors are gearing up to participate in the main event, with more than 50,000 runners taking to the streets and 2.5 million viewers watching from the sidelines. The first marathon was launched in 1970 in Central Park.

The marathon is scheduled to kickoff at 8:30 a.m. EST with wheelchair contestants, which will be followed by hand cyclists at 8:52 a.m. Professional female runners will start at 9:20 a.m. EST, and professional male runners will being at 9:50 a.m. EST. The remaining participants will run after the professional men at 9:50 a.m., 10:15 a.m., 10:40 a.m. and 11 a.m EST.

Participants and viewers should prepare to arrive early. There is a map of the course on the New York City Marathon website to guide runners and watchers. The recommended way to get around NYC during the marathon Sunday is by bus or subway, and the MTA has published a map to help get around the city.
