Wrestling pair John Cena and Nikki Bella are working on maintaining a friendship since calling off their engagement in April. The Total Bellas star, however, revealed the duo began to drift apart during their wedding planning period.
Cena, 41, and Bella, 34, were together for six years before pulling the plug. They would've tied the knot May 5, but Bella began to feel uncertain about marrying her intended husband. This will be evident for fans who tune into Total Bellas to watch the episodes leading up to the pair's wedding, which as the world now knows, doesn't happen.
During a preview of Sunday's episode of Total Bellas, she was out to tea with friends when she was asked whether Cena had any requests ahead of their planned nuptials. With this, she shared that he only cared about whether or not she would "show up" for the ceremony before sharing: "Every little part of this wedding, it's like, it's going back."
The then-engaged Bella twin admitted to her concerns in a confessional.
"I feel like I'm continuing to grow more apart from John, and I should be growing closer to him," Bella said during Sunday's episode. "I don't want to ruin anyone's weekend and they're all here for me, so even though I'm feeling all these emotions, I just think I want to keep this to myself for a bit longer. As long as I can, at least."
Bella has discussed her unease about marrying Cena before. On a July 15 episode of the E! series, she shared her discomfort with her former fiancée's on-screen sex scenes. The WWE star has stripped down for Amy Schumer's Trainwreck and engaged in butt chugging during a scene featured in Blockers.
"Imagine watching your man do a sex scene and have the whole world see his big butt," Bella said. "You know, you get visuals. I swear, I couldn't masturbate forever because I just think of the sex scene."
In regards to his nude sex scene with Schumer, Cena admitted to refraining from telling Bella about the part until the last minute. "She has such beautiful brown eyes and they glowed like red hellfire. And like she has such a great smile, but she turned into the Alien and The Predator all at once," Cena said of informing Bella of the role on Conan in 2016. "It was more like a forgiveness thing and, note to all you guys out there, that's a bad approach."
