Nine Perfect Strangers is streaming on Hulu now with a soundtrack which entrances viewers and helps them settle in to the calming surroundings of the fictional Tranquillum House.
The new series stars Melissa McCarthy, Bobby Cannavale and Michael Shannon as some of the guests looking to heal themselves at a health and wellness resort run by the mysterious host Masha, played by Nicole Kidman.
Nine Perfect Strangers was written by Liane Moriarty and created for TV by David E. Kelley, both of whom brought audiences Big Little Lies. Like the hit HBO show, Nine Perfect Strangers features a catchy theme song as well as a wonderful collection of earworms on the soundtrack.

Nine Perfect Strangers theme song
The soft tones of the band Unloved and their song "Strange Effect" are used as the show's theme tune. Artist Raven Violet is credited as a featured artist on the track too.
The song blends perfectly with the kaleidoscopic and psychedelic images played over the opening credits, and "Strange Effect" is a perfect term which alludes to the mysteries unfolding at Tranquillum House.
Unloved are a Los Angeles-based music trio while their song "Strange Effect" was released in 2020. Their songs have also featured in the BBC America show Killing Eve.
Songs in Nine Perfect Strangers Episode 1
The episode opens in perhaps ironic fashion as the nine emotionally damaged strangers make their way to the wellness retreat with Peggy Lee's "It's a Good Day." Frances Welty (McCarthy) sings along to the tune on the radio while she drives to Tranquillum House.
While Lars Lee (Luke Evans) and Carmel Schneider (Regina Hall) are shopping at a gas station, "Problem Child" by Roy Orbison is heard on the radio in the background.
Gladys Knight & The Pips play us out in Episode 1 with their track "I've Got to Use My Imagination."

Episode 2 of Nine Perfect Strangers features a mystically orchestral track to begin with as Masha runs to the song "Carnival of the Animals: Aquarium" by Yakov Zak, Emil Gilels, Karl Eliasberg, Leningrad Philharmic Orchestra and Daniel Shafran.
"You Are My Sunshine" by Jimmie Davis is the well-timed track which accompanies the breakfast montage. Later on Frances and Tony Hogburn (Cannavale) listen to "Ramble" by Link Wray & The Wraymen and "Let's Live" by Aaron Neville while in the pool.
As the episode reaches its crescendo, "Loyalty" by Gabriels plays over Masha's conversation with Yao (Manny Jacinto) and Delilah (Tiffany Boone) before it continues to play over the end credits.
Songs in Nine Perfect Strangers Episode 3
Episode 3, "Earth Day" features tracks which could make you feel one with nature, but it first opens with the classic track "Only You" by The Platters as Masha dives off a waterfall.
Bon Ivor's track "Michicant" plays a prominent role in the episode, especially for the Marconi family. Heather (Asher Keddie) sings the song and thinks of her late son while the song also flares up again while Napoleon (Shannon) talks about his son and tells the story of the goat.
During the group's meditation session, the Bournemouth Symphony orchestra's rendition of the "Harpsichord Concerto in F Minor" is played. The Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra's version of "Cavalleria Rusticana: Intermezzo" is played later while Tony chases a goat.
When the retreat guests are having fun dancing around the bonfire, Future Islands' song "For Sure" plays. After Masha is put on the spot at the end of the episode, The Avalanches song "Running Red Lights" (feat. Rivers Cuomo & Pink Siifu) plays over the credits.

Episode 4, "Brave New World" starts out in gently melodic fashion as "Sostanze Inferiori" by Giovanni Tornambene plays in the scene while the smoothies are being prepared and breakfast is served.
Later on we hear the sound of the sixties from Rosie & The Originals as "Angel Baby" plays as Masha approaches the guests at the bonfire.
The creators chose an ironic track to close out this episode's credits. The last thing we see on screen is Masha's dread as she walks into her office and sees someone has threatened her life—cue "No More "I Love Yous"" by Annie Lennox.
Songs in Nine Perfect Strangers Episode 5
Napoleon kicks off this week's episode with an impressively enthusiastic rendition of "You're the One that I Want," which is famously featured in the movie Grease. It's played a lot differently in this scene as the embarrassing dad sings for his wife and for his daughter on her 21st birthday.
Later on the song "What Makes Me Think About You" by Nicolas Godin plays over the top of several scenes. It starts as Napoleon and Heather jump into the waterfall, it plays while Yao and Delilah get intimate without touching, and as Masha walks into the woods and receives her latest ominous text.
At the end of the night, as a special birthday treat for his daughter Zoe, Napoleon belts out Ronnie Milsap's "Happy, Happy Birthday Baby" on a karaoke machine. This melody plays until the credits roll.
Songs in Nine Perfect Strangers Episode 6
Masha's moment with the cake at the start of the episode features the ironic use of a Russian version of "Happy Birthday" sang by Christophe Petrel. Moments later, Frances is woken up by a small hallucination of Paul Drabble (Ben Falcone) singing "Money, Money" from the musical Cabaret.
Operatic music provides the score the the morning's breakfast conversation with "Piano Concerto No. 20 in D Minor, K. 466: II. Romance" by the Munich Philharmonic playing.
More mainstream hits are played next as Rihanna's "Love on the Brain" accompanies Tony and Frances' moments in the woods before Stevie Nicks' "Leather and Lace" plays over the Marconi family "trip."
One of the most alarming moments of the show, when Jessica's nose falls off, has "Enfant" by El Michels Affair and The Shacks playing.
Finally, Dusty Springfield's "The Windmills of Your Mind" plays as Masha reflects on her past by the pool before the credits roll.

Much of this episode features orchestral music from the Nine Perfect Strangers soundtrack by Marco Beltrami and Miles Hankins.
Audrey Hepburn singing "Moon River" is the episode's first prominent song as it plays while Frances sits in the sauna and sees herself as a young girl outside.
Delilah's big escape, as she bundles in her truck down the driveway away from Tranquillum House features Wayne Fontana's catchy "Game of Love" on the car radio.
Finally Carmel dances around to "Xanadu" by Olivia Newton John featuring Electric Light Orchestra before the episode's big revelation and the credits.
Songs in Nine Perfect Strangers Episode 8
The series finale, "Ever After" is filled with recognizable music starting with "True Love Ways" by Buddy Holly as Masha starts to hallucinate in the mirror.
While Carmel struggles in the sensory deprivation tank, "Never My Love" by The Association plays. Outside in the woods while the Marconis and Masha start to get deep into their shared delusion, "Motion Picture Soundtrack" by Radiohead can be heard.
The Marconis' sweet moment with their lost son Zach features "Michicant" by Bon Iver.
"Silent Lucidity" by Queensryche plays over the final montage, which scrolls through each of the strangers' lives post-retreat.
Finally Nicole Kidman's husband Keith Urban's song "Crimson Blue" plays during the season's final credits. "Crimson Blue" was written and performed exclusively for Nine Perfect Strangers and you can find it here.
