Jane the Virgin fans may already be dreading the end of the upcoming final season of the family-based drama/comedy, but the spinoff is already sounding much sweeter. One Jane the Virgin actor has signed on to continue the words of Jane Villanueva. Ivonne Coll, who plays Jane's beloved Alba, will appear in the spinoff, according to Deadline. The spinoff will allegedly be called Jane the Novela, according to IMDB.
What is the plot?
Jane the Novela will follow the characters of Jane Villanueva's book, Snow Falling. The romance novel, which fictionalized Jane's romance with first husband Michael, was a staple concept in the series, as much of it saw Jane writing the novel and working to publish it.
In the spinoff, Snow Falling will come to life, in remembrance of Jane and Michael's love story. Fans of the series may already know Snow Falling is published in real life and can be purchased on Amazon. This may be the best way to get a sneak peak of what the spinoff series will have to offer.
Will Coll's character Alba be in the series?
It's unclear if Coll will reprise her role as Alba. Alba could be a staple in the book, or she could appear as a completely different, yet familiar face in the series.
Who else has been cast?
A selection of leading actors for Jane the Novela have already been announced. Remy Hii and Hunter Parrish have been cast as the leading men, according to Digital Spy. Jaqueline Grace Lopez will take the leading female role. She's best known for appearing in Hulu series East Los High.
Fans may be excited to know Gina Rodriguez, who plays Jane in the original series, is also signed on to the spinoff. While Rodriguez likely won't appear in person, she's set to be the narrator for the series, according to Deadline. This seems confirmed by Rodriguez's listing on the series IMDB page.
When will it premiere?
Jane the Novela has no set premiere date, and is still considered in pre-production via IMDB. This means filming for the show has not yet begun. Jane The Virgin's last season will premiere on March 27 on the CW.
