Athlete Oscar Pistorius' release from prison was delayed on Wednesday by South Africa's Department of Justice until it is reviewed by a parole board.
Pistorius was supposed to be released Friday after serving 10 months of a five-year sentence. But the case must be looked at again because he was prematurely approved to be placed on house arrest beginning on August 21, a justice department spokesman told the Associated Press. Pistorius had been considered for release only eight months into his sentence.
Pistorius is a South African Olympic and Paralympic track champion who was convicted of fatally shooting his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, at his home in February 2013. He said he mistook Steenkamp for an intruder, and received a five-year prison sentence for culpable homicide.
The prosecution failed to convince the judge of Pistorius ' intent to kill when he opened fire on Steenkamp.
