An ominous message that may be from Infowars host Owen Shroyer has been shared online prior to his release from federal prison.
Shroyer, an associate of Infowars founder Alex Jones, is serving a 60-day sentence related to the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. A post earlier this week on X, formerly Twitter, announced that he would be released ahead of schedule from Louisiana's Federal Correctional Institution Oakdale on Friday.
The account that posted the release news, @OwenShroyer1776, was run by Shroyer before he turned himself in. The account touts itself as belonging to "political prisoner Owen Shroyer" and has remained active during his imprisonment, although the extent to which Shroyer is currently contributing to posts is unclear.
A post attributed to Shroyer on Wednesday, which was deleted hours later, hinted that he would be seeking to mete out revenge on his "enemies" upon his release, announcing that he had never been "more driven or purpose filled" while sharing a quote from U.S. World War II General George S. Patton.
"I have never been more driven or purpose filled in all of my life," the post stated. "A previously unknown force within me has been ignited. 'May God have mercy upon my enemies, because I won't.'"
Shroyer's lawyer Norm Pattis told Newsweek over the phone on Wednesday that he did not know whether his client had written the post, pointing out that he has "no access to the internet while in prison and very little access to the phone."
"I don't think anybody should leap to conclusions and conclude that that was him and ascribe a meaning to a comment, the source of which I don't know," Pattis said.
Shroyer was previously placed in solitary confinement after an audio recording of him speaking over the phone from prison was shared to his X account. In the call, Shroyer thanked his supporters for sending "fan mail" and said that he hoped to "pull the impossible" by hosting his own radio show from behind bars.
The Infowars host was one of more than 1,100 people charged with crimes related to the January 6 attack, which saw supporters of former President Donald Trump attempt to stop Congress from certifying President Joe Biden's 2020 election victory.
Infowars has long been a popular forum for the airing of right-wing conspiracy theories, including the falsehood that Trump's loss by more than 7 million votes in 2020 was caused by as-yet-undetected massive voter fraud.
Shroyer received his 60-day sentence in September after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of illegally entering a restricted area at the Capitol, although he did not enter the building itself.
He has admitted to leading a march to near the top of the Capitol's steps, where he was seen during the riot shouting into a bullhorn, calling Democrats "tyrants" and wishing "death to tyrants."
