Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's husband, Paul Pelosi, allegedly showed "symptoms of alcohol intoxication" when he was arrested in May on charges of Driving Under the Influence (DUI).
Court documents published by Fox News on Tuesday said Paul Pelosi's Porsche was allegedly involved in a crash with a Jeep on May 28, and the vehicles suffered "major collision damage."
Pelosi is set for arraignment on Wednesday in Napa County Superior Court, according to the office of District Attorney Allison Haley, though he will not be required to attend in person.
The publication of the court documents comes as Speaker Pelosi visited the island of Taiwan on Tuesday and Wednesday, becoming the first serving speaker to travel there since 1997.
The DUI report alleges that Paul Pelosi handed officers his license along with an 11-99 Foundation card. The 11-99 Foundation is a charity that supports officers of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and provides scholarships for their children.
Pelosi was reportedly the sole occupant of his vehicle and was in the driver's seat when an officer of the Napa County Sheriff's Department arrived at the scene. The other driver was identified only as John Doe (a placeholder name used when the true name of a person is unknown or is being concealed).
Medical units also attended but both Pelosi and John Doe refused medical treatment at the scene.
CHP officers arrived to investigate the crash and the report said they "observed objective signs and symptoms of alcohol intoxication coming from Mr. Pelosi."
The DUI report alleges that Pelosi's eyes were "red/watery" and he was "unsteady on his feet, his speech was slurred, and he had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath."
Officers transported Pelosi to a CHP office in Napa where a sample of his blood was taken and it was later determined that his blood alcohol level was 0.082. According to the California DMV, it is illegal to drive with a blood alcohol level of 0.08 or above.
John Doe reportedly told prosecutors on June 2 that he had pain in his upper right arm, right shoulder and neck the day after the collision, as well as suffering from headaches and finding it more difficult to lift things with his right arm.
While he said had not missed any work days, Doe told prosecutors he was more tired in the afternoon than before the incident.
A two-charge criminal complaint filed in California's Superior Court in Napa County alleges that Pelosi injured John Doe "while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage and a drug and under their combined influence."
Amanda Bevins, Pelosi's attorney, told Fox News Digital: "I believe that the drug reference is part of the statutory boilerplate language in the complaint."
Pelosi has been charged with DUI causing injury and driving with a 0.08 percent blood alcohol level.
Newsweek has asked Pelosi's attorney for comment.
Speaker Pelosi's office has previously said they will not comment on the incident and that it occurred while the speaker was on the other side of the country. She is currently in Asia.
The Chinese government has reacted with outrage to the Democrat's recent visit to Taiwan and planned military drills in response. Nancy Pelosi is expected to leave the island on Wednesday.
