'The Peripheral' Character Guide From Flynne to Aelita

Prime Video's adaptation of William Gibson's novel The Peripheral has a vast cast spread across two different timelines.

Starring Chloë Grace Moretz, the series follows her character, a young woman named Flynne Fisher, as she is thrust into a mystery that connects her time with the future but could also threaten her family's lives.

With so many characters both in Flynne's timeline and in the future, viewers might need a guide to help them keep track of everyone. Here is everything you need to know.

'The Peripheral' Character Guide From Flynne to Aelita

The Peripheral is set in North Carolina in 2039 and London in 2099. Flynne travels between the two via an AI sim she originally thinks is part of a game. But in reality, her consciousness has been thrust into the "Peripheral," a kind of cyborg avatar.

Flynne Fisher

Flynne is the lead protagonist of the story, and it is through her that the audience is transported between the two timelines.

A straight-talking woman, Flynne is sent to the future when her brother Burton asks her to help with his work, providing security in a virtual video game that turns out to be real and she witnesses an event she was not supposed to.

Burton Fisher

Burton Fisher is portrayed by Jack Reynor in the series. The character is a former marine of the elite Haptic Recon force.

This profession comes in handy when nefarious forces start to become a threat to him, Flynne, and their mother following Flynne's time in the future.

Conner

Conner is a friend of the Fisher family who previously served alongside Burton in the marines. He is portrayed by Eli Goree in the series.

A triple amputee who uses a motorized road-capable wheelchair, Conner will not let anyone underestimate him and won't hesitate to defend his friends when others try to threaten them.

Corbell Pickett

Played by Louis Herthum, Corbell Pickett is a local drug baron in North Carolina who becomes embroiled in the drama that Flynne finds herself in.

Wilf Netherton

Wilf Netherton is the main character who meets Flynne during her time in London 2099. He is played by Gary Carr in the series.

Wilf recruits Flynne to try and help him find a woman named Aelita, who Flynne encountered when she first time-travels in the Peripheral and is the reason she becomes a target.

Carr spoke to Newsweek about playing Wilf, saying he enjoyed the "challenge" of the role: "I thought doing a role like this would make me a better actor for that reason. There's lots of things going on with Wilf, but it's 'How do you show that without showing emotion?' That was a challenge and I was terrified, and I for a long time I had no idea what I was doing. I felt that way anyway, but I just think he's a super interesting character.

"Also, without giving any of the story away, he has some things that he has to deal with and figure out, and that's always interesting to play onscreen.

"And also he has a humanity about him. I think he lives in a world where it can feel very sterile, very cold, where there isn't much connection when it comes to like being a human being. But Wilf's got a lot of human things going on, a lot of emotions going on, so yeah he's quite an endearing character."

Aelita

Played by Charlotte Riley, the character Aelita is the woman that Wilf is searching for. She goes missing shortly after her encounter with Flynne, who initially travels in a Peripheral robot of her brother Burton.

As Flynne investigates Aelita's disappearance, she starts to learn of a dark truth in London and draws the attention of people she wouldn't want to cross.

Lev Zubov

Portrayed by JJ Feild, Lev Zubov is a character with a lot of mystery to him, though he appears to be on the good side because of his friendship with Wilf. Coming from a wealthy Russian family, Lev aids Flynne in her search for Aelita.

Feild also spoke to Newsweek about his character, saying that the cast and crew "don't want people to know where Lev or Cherise are going to come from."

"That's the exciting thing about people that you might perceive as the villains is if it's because they're going to be villainous. It's two-dimensional, we see it coming.

"My goal for Lev was I wanted to make him someone that you want to hang out with, someone you want to be around, however dark and mysterious he is. I wanted people to want to hang out with him.

"Gary Carr as Wilf is one of our leads, and he's the guy that we want to care for and follow [as viewers]. If he wants to be a friend with Lev there's got to be something in there, it can't just be fear. So I wanted Lev to bridge these two worlds of our heroes and also to be the outside of The Collective, which is the organization he is involved in."

Cherise

Cherise is portrayed by T'Nia Miller. She is a mysterious, morally grey character who may prove to be a threat to Flynne and Wilf.

Miller told Newsweek: "Cherise comes across as quite villainous but I think that she really is there to serve the greater good by any means necessary. Sometimes you've got to break a few eggs to make an omelet: the end justifies the means.

"And it's very lonely for her, it's very lonely at the top. Dear Lev has all these people around him, puppets or friends or playthings, but Cherise is very much there on her own. Sometimes, she has made those very hard decisions but ultimately they have paid off."

The Peripheral premieres on Prime Video on Friday, October 21 with its first two episodes. It will air weekly on the streaming platform.
