Spain's Central Electoral Board said flags symbolising Catalan independence should be removed from public buildings to preserve neutrality of election campaigns. The nationalist electoral alliance Convergència told El País they wanted to appeal the order.

Norway's NRK channel has exposed a web chat forum used by more than a thousand paedophiles. Journalists uncovered a thread titled "how far would you go", which suggested a third of respondents would rape a child. Users were not allowed to communicate in English.

Former justice minister Rachida Dati has denied any wrongdoing after auditors had rejected her expenses claims for items including luxury clothes. Dati, an MEP for ex-president Nicolas Sarkozy's UMP party, claims she was buying presents for foreign delegates.

Prime Minister Xavier Bettel became the first EU leader to enter a same-sex marriage after wedding his Belgian architect partner in the country's town hall last week. Bettel follows the example of former Icelandic PM, Johanna Sigurdardottir, who wed her partner in 2010.
