'Pokémon GO': Spotlight Hour February 22 Start Time and Featured Pokémon

The next spotlight hour for Pokémon GO will feature an electric-type creature that you can add to your roster.

Niantic's immensely popular mobile game has a number of regularly-scheduled events to keep players hooked throughout the year.

For instance, each month there is a special community day that incentivizes you to log in during a specific time window, so that you can earn rewards at an accelerated rate. There are also various celebrations themed around holidays like Lunar New Year or Christmas.

In addition, spotlight hours are coordinated on a weekly basis. During these smaller events, featured Pokémon will be more prolific out in the wild—making them easier to catch—and there will also be special bonuses in effect (These details vary each time).

As the name suggests, a given spotlight hour will only last for 60 minutes, so you have to be prepared and clear your schedule. With the next one due to take place very soon, here is everything you need to know.

'Pokémon GO': Spotlight Hour Start Time for February 22

Throughout February, Pokémon GO spotlight hours have been taking place every Tuesday at 6 p.m.

These events are synchronized to your local time, so nobody has to get up ridiculously early or go out too late in the evening. It doesn't make a difference where in the world you live, the spotlight hour will always start at 6 p.m. and end at 7 p.m.

February 22 Spotlight Hour: Featured Pokémon and Bonus

When it comes to the spotlight hour on Tuesday, February 22, the featured Pokémon will be Voltorb.

If you're not familiar with this electric-type character, it resembles a sentient Poké Ball (with square eyes and a mouth that is formed by the divide between its red and white sections).

In Pokémon GO, Voltorb is resistant to incoming flying, steel and electric damage but vulnerable to ground attacks. Its repertoire includes the spark and thunderbolt offensive moves, as well as the discharge defense ability. When fed 50 candies, it can evolve into its more powerful Electrode form.

Speaking of candy, you can earn this resource at double the usual rate if you play during the upcoming spotlight hour. Between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. on February 22, a 2X catch candy bonus will be in effect.

One last thing to note is that a shiny permutation of Voltorb will also be featured in this event, meaning that you have a better chance of catching that rarer variant as well.

Pokémon GO is free to play on Android and iOS devices but is monetized through microtransaction payments.
