Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: How Big is The Pokedex?

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are set to release later this week, which means millions will be jumping into the latest chapter of the acclaimed Pokémon series. With the arrival of a new generation of Pokémon, though, players have a lot to look forward to, including a slew of new Pokémon that will join a ton of returning Pokémon, too. Here's what you need to know.

So far, we know of at least 23 total new Generation 9 Pokémon, which will include the three new starter Pokémon, as well as two legendary Pokémon, and at least another 230 Pokémon from other generations that can be found throughout the Paldea region.

Most of the new Pokémon that have been announced are currently shrouded in mystery, though, as Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have kept things very close to the chest. While that isn't a bad thing, it has definitely kept the community wondering what kind of Pokémon they will be able to catch.

Here's a list of all the new Gen 9 Pokémon the community knows of so far:

  • Iron Treads
  • Great Tusk
  • Gimmighoul
  • Bellibolt
  • Greavard
  • Wiglett
  • Farigiraf
  • Armarouge
  • Klawf
  • Ceruledge
  • Cyclizar
  • Grafaiai
  • Cetitan
  • Fidough
  • Koraidon
  • Wooper
  • Miraidon
  • Lechonk
  • Pawmi
  • Sprigatito
  • Smoliv
  • Quaxly
  • Fueococo

Of course, you'll also have the additional starter Pokémon evolutions to add to your Pokedex, too, though they might not all be catchable in the wild. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are set to release on November 18, 2022. That means fans of the series only have a short time left to wait until the newest entry in the series arrives. And, when it does, it will come with a slew of new features to explore, too.

On top of offering similar gym features seen in previous Pokémon games, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will also feature the option to take your Pokémon out on picnics, and you'll be able to explore an open world similar to that seen in Pokémon Arceus, which featured a more open-ended exploration system for players to take advantage of.

When Pokémon Scarlet and Violet arrive, fans can look forward to exploring the massive Pokedex and catching as many Pokémon as they can. It's also possible that we'll see more reveals about the Pokémon in that Pokedex as we grow closer to the release date later this week. For now, though, we can at least expect there to be 23 new Pokémon to catch, and around 230 to catch altogether, maybe more.
