The last winners to win a Powerball jackpot was a couple from Lansing, Michigan who won $2 million. Morris Cummings and his girlfriend, Jackie Rowley, told lottery officials they decided to purchase a ticket from Randy's Food Center in Flint, Michigan, for the January 12 drawing.

"We stopped to grab a gift for my girlfriend's cousin on our way to her 21st birthday party," said Cummings. "While my girlfriend was shopping, I bought a few Powerball tickets. "After we left the party, we stopped at the bar on our way home. While we were there, I remembered that I had a few Powerball tickets to check. I checked the numbers on my phone, and at first I thought maybe I was seeing things a bit fuzzy because I'd had a few drinks, so I asked my girlfriend to check the ticket."

Rowley confirmed that they had hit the $2 million jackpot. The couple claimed their prize on Friday. They told lottery officials they plan on taking a vacation and saving the rest of their winnings.

"I can't explain this feeling at all. It's been so exciting and we're both thrilled to have this money in the bank," Cummings told lottery officials.

In January, a man from Brooklyn, New York, claimed the $298.3 million prize from a December 26 drawing. David Johnson, a truck driver, told WCBS-TV that he purchased the winning ticket from Arnold's Service Station in Brooklyn. His friend called him the following day to tell him that someone won the Powerball jackpot from their local gas station, but he didn't believe he was the winner.

"I looked at the board and I'm like, 'Oh my God, Jesus, oh my God'" he told the news station. "I jumped up and down in the store…. I got back in my car, turned the music up and zoomed on home."
