Priyanka Chopra Reveals How Nick Jonas Won Her Over and Changed Her Early Impression of Him

When Priyanka Chopra started seeing Nick Jonas, the actress did what many girls do to guys they are just getting to know: She dropped hints. The Miss World 2000 recently revealed that she initially thought her pop star beau wasn't catching on, but when he finally did respond to her implied come-ons, what he told her made Chopra rethink the direction of their relationship.

The 36-year-old actress on Thursday told audience members at Tina Brown's 10th annual Women in the World Summit that Jonas made it clear he would never stop her from succeeding in her career.

"I've known him for two years. I didn't think that this is what it turned out to be, and that's maybe that's my fault, I judged a book by its cover," she said. "When I actually started dating Nick, he surprised me so much."

Chopra said that she told Jonas she had a meeting scheduled for after their date, but she also suggested that those plans could be changed — if someone gave her a good enough reason.

While most men would have red the big neon sign asking them to give Chopra that reason, Jonas didn't get the hint — or at least she didn't think so until the 26-year-old singer let her know he got the message.

"Finally he took me aside and was like, 'Look, I'm not stupid. I know what you're trying to do. But I would never be the one to tell you to cancel work because I know how hard you've worked to be where you are. So, if you could've canceled it, you would've done it. I'll take our friends out for dinner and we'll wait for you and you finish your meeting and come back," she said. "And I was just like, 'That's the first time someone's ever done that.'"

The actress, who played Isabella on Isn't it Romantic, agreed it was "wonderful" to have someone who gave her credit for her achievements.

Other than their shared involvement in charity work, the couple also shared their respect for the other's religion and culture. Last December, the couple tied the knot three times throughout their multi-day wedding.

"Hopefully it will be the only one," she said. "I knew it was going to be three days because Indian weddings do have pre-rituals. And I knew that both of us wanted one wedding in each of our religions, so that was two days anyway."

On the Jonas Brothers' March appearance on "Carpool Karaoke" with James Corden, the youngest sibling admitted that there did come a time when he had enough of weddings.

"It was when I looked at the bill," he confessed, a statement that a subsequent lie detector test on the show confirmed was true.
