R. Kelly's Former Manager Surrenders on Arrest Warrant: 'We Won't Be Bullied or Threatened,' Joycelyn Savage's Family Lawyer Says

R. Kelly's former manager surrendered to authorities on a terrorist threat warrant. Henry James Mason turned himself into Henry County Sheriff's Office in Georgia on Friday, according to Atlanta's WSB-TV news. Network reporter Mark Winne was first to break the development on Twitter.

Winne said Henry County Sherrif Keith McBrayer confirmed Mason's surrendering on charges of terroristic threats. A warrant was issued against Mason over the summer after he allegedly threatened to kill the family of Joycelyn Savage over their claims of Kelly holding Savage in a sex cult against her will.

Savage's family first made the claims in a 2017 Buzzfeed report. Savage herself has denied being held captive by Kelly.

Savage's father, Timothy, accused Mason of calling him and threatening the family in May 2018, according to a CNN report on January 9.

Gerald Griggs, the Savage family's attorney, released a statement in light of Mason's surrender on Friday. "Let this be a message to R. Kelly's staff that we won't be bullied or threatened. We will continue to pursue legal action against any and all threats to the safety of the Savage family," he said, adding, "Our goal has always been to bring Joycelyn Savage home safely and we will not be deterred."

Mason was offered a $10,000 bond and is expected to be released on Friday.

News of the arrest warrant and Mason's alleged threats against the family surfaced following Lifetime's six-part docuseries, Surviving R. Kelly, which documented the R&B singer's years of alleged abuse and sexual assault against young women and girls. The Savages—minus Joycelyn—expounded on their accusations of Kelly on the show, which aired for three nights in early January.

Kelly has long denied holding women against their will. He has also denied ever abusing women or engaging in sexual relationships with underage girls. Although he was famously indicted on charges of child pornography after a leaked videotape showed him having sex with and urinating on a girl believed to be 14 years old at the time, a jury found him not guilty in 2008.
