Former British Chancellor George Osborne has been filmed in a Vietnam jungle purportedly firing a machine gun.

A video posted online by the Daily Mirror appears to show the British MP enjoying his summer holiday as he unloads a heavy machine gun in the southeast Asian country.

In response to the story, Osborne tweeted: "After all these years, I finally have a front page in the Daily Mirror worth keeping."

The former chancellor visited the former stronghold of the Viet Cong close to Ho Chi Minh City.

The footage has prompted some to liken Osborne to Sylvester Stallone's John Rambo character.
