'Rare' Footage of Crow Attacking Snake Captured by Shocked Bystanders

A snake catcher has shocked the internet after sharing footage of a rare rescue, featuring a snake being attacked by crows near a busy highway, in a clip that has since gone viral.

In the viral post, shared on Facebook earlier in October under the username Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7, the snake catcher can be seen removing the coastal carpet python from a tree outside a gym, explaining that it had to be removed, or it risked being hassled further down the road by the crows who were attacking him from the top of the tree.

The post comes with a caption that says: "Crow bullies python outside gym!" Followed by: "Birds are often telltale signs of nearby unwanted snakes, but it's quite rare that we see a bird get so close like shown in the video. Very cool and unique."

Stuart McKenzie, owner and director of Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7 told Newsweek: "I believe this snake was near a popular gym facility and the crows and other birds wouldn't leave it alone, so we came and relocated it. The birds don't seem to like snakes very much."

Carpet pythons are venomous snakes that can reach a length of about 13 feet, but usually top out at 9 or 10. The exact population of this species is not known, but they are very common in Oceania, where they lead a solitary life, eating mainly lizards, birds, rodents, and marsupials, as well as bats, chickens, and other small animals.

The video quickly went viral on social media and has so far received more than 2,200 likes and 75 comments.

One user, Paul Cooper, commented: "I've seen this in my backyard with a crow relentlessly trying to get the python to release its mate. The snake won." And Carolyn PT said: "He thinks. Ooooh, comfy bag trip.. much better than being pecked at by birds."

Kay Ruhland wrote: "Thank you for saving that beautiful python from those nasty crows. Great job." And Zom Zom said: "Love how he was curious about you once he popped out of the bag. Pythons are just like giant puppies."

Maree Summers added: "I love how you pick the snake up like picking up a ball, you are wonderful, keep doing your job saving snakes."
