Rashee Rice Charges Could See Chiefs Star Face Up to 35 Years in Prison

Super Bowl winner Rashee Rice potentially faces 35 years in prison over his involvement in a high-speed collision.

The 23-year-old Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver has one day to turn himself in after an arrest warrant was issued by the Dallas Police Department (DPD).

Rice has admitted involvement in the crash and faces charges for eight alleged felonies according to the warrant cited by local media outlet WFAA: six counts of collision involving bodily injury, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury, and one count of aggravated assault.

"I take full responsibility for my part in this matter and will continue to cooperate with the necessary authorities," Rice posted on Instagram on April 3, in a since deleted post: "I sincerely apologize to everyone impacted."

Rice was driving a leased Lamborghini SUV on the Central Expressway in Dallas on March 30 when his car and a Corvette, also leased in his name, allegedly lost control at speed and caused a six-car collision.

Rice's former teammate at the SMU college team, Theodore Knox, was driving the Corvette and is facing the same charges. The cars were carrying a combined total of six people, and the passengers have not been charged.

The punishable terms of the charges include, no more than five years of jail time or one year in county and fine not to exceed $5,000 for the charge of "collision involving injury."

The charge of "collision involving serious bodily injury" carries a jail term not exceeding 10 years, but not fewer than two years.

Aggravated assault, which is a second-degree felony has the punishment of between two to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

State Senator Royce West is representing Rice after the accident and told media the Chiefs player had "fully co-operated with law enforcement."

Newsweek contacted the Chiefs, West and the DPD by email for comment.

Footage of the incident from a dashcam showed three men leaving the vehicles after the collision.

Police said they also found marijuana in both cars, along with credit cards, a $16,500 check, a diamond chain, and the playbook for the Kansas City Chiefs.

"This case was conducted as all cases are conducted, thorough and fair, as that is what all victims deserve and what our city demands," DPD Chief Eddie Garcia said on Wednesday.

"An investigation has no timeline. We will not be pressured, and we will do what is right. Our men and women work to determine who is involved and how they were involved, conduct interviews, and gather evidence to build a solid case to hold people accountable for dangerous conduct in our city."

Local media obtained comment from an attorney representing one couple impacted by the collision. Lawyer Tennessee Walker said the woman had to be pulled from the car by emergency services and they were both "angry" about what had happened.

"She had a very big laceration on her left eye. She's got several stitches that were put in at the hospital, and the eye socket is completely swollen and black and blue," Walker said.

Rice was drafted to the Chiefs in 2023 and was considered a top talent head of his performance in the Super Bowl victory against the 49ers this year.
