Woman Shares Reason to Never Buy a Crocheted Blanket for Partner: 'Divorce'

A woman shared the hilarious reason you should never gift your partner a crocheted blanket.

There are many irrational or inexplicable reasons someone might "get the ick," a sudden pang of dislike after someone carries out a particular action. Dagmar De Munter (@dagmardemunter on TikTok) developed a new ick after she got her partner a cream crochet blanket and his big toe peeped through a hole in it.

Hundreds of TikTok users shared the same disgust and were in stitches after the viral video amassed 722,3000 views. One even suggested the couple get divorced.

De Munter's video shows her guy cuddled up on the couch underneath the blanket while scrolling on his phone. The camera pans down and zooms in on his big toe sticking out.

She captioned her video, which has received 87,800 likes since it was posted a week ago: "Never get your man a crochet blanket #newickunlocked."

Many of the commenters said they were adding this new phenomenon to their "ick list," too.

"Actually can't breathe," Dems said, while a TikToker named Chloe wrote, "Got me in stitches here."

One TikToker commented, "No I'm sorry but he and that blanket would have to move out immediately."

While used in the 1990s, the word "ick" has gained traction in popularity as a word used habitually by Generation Z.

The noun was first used in the dating realm in a 1999 episode of the TV comedy Ally McBeal, where the protagonist, played by Calista Flockhart, described not being attracted to someone as "the ick."

According to dictionary.com, the term gained further popularity through the reality TV show Love Island. Later, by the early 2020s, it entered the mainstream and proliferated across social media sites.

One woman on TikTok (@sophie.wheelerr) revealed her ick was when her boyfriend struggled to get out of the sea as waves charged towards him while vacationing in Mexico. She shared the hilarious footage on TikTok which received over 450,000 likes.

Icks are not always romantic. One woman revealed on Mumsnet that her male friend's actions had given her the ick. Her 43-year-old pal of a decade had started dating a 21-year-old woman, and she found the age gap and his jokes about having a 'hot young girlfriend' icky.

Innocent animals have not even escaped being ickworthy. A cat named Stanley tried and failed to put his owner's white sneakers in, and the amusing video gained over 5.5 million views, as the owner shared that it was a "new ick."
