Cat Witnesses Car Crash on His Street, and He's 'Not Happy About It'

One cat's day appears to have been ruined when two cars collided in his neighborhood.

The video of Jack Spicer, a rescue cat named after the American poet, has recently gone viral on TikTok after he witnessed a collision. The black-and-white feline, who lives in Denver, Colorado, appears to be alarmed as he stands on a wall and anxiously meows while looking up and down the road. So far, the footage of Jack wearing a tartan jumper and yellow bandana has racked up more than 736,000 views and over 220,000 likes.

Layered over the video shared to @spicerjack five days ago, the text reads: "Two cars just crashed on the street and he is not happy about it."

Jack Spicer's owner told Newsweek: "My cat was adopted in rural Wisconsin from a humane society; he was abandoned in a house with two large dogs, and was starving.

"He has some dog-like qualities as a result," the owner added.

Fortunately, Jack wasn't harmed by the cars, but outdoor cats are at serious risk, according to People's Dispensary for Sick Animals. The U.K.-based charity has said that any cat who is allowed to roam the streets could be at risk of an accident. Young and unneutered felines are more at risk because they may roam further in the search for a mate.

There is also a high chance of an accident for cats who live near a busy road and for those who spend time outside at night time; drivers may be unable to see the animal crossing the road if it is dark.

Owners can keep their pets safe by doing the following:

  • Neuter your cat to avoid them wandering off.
  • Buy a reflective collar, so they are easier to spot in the dark.
  • Only let your cat into a secure garden.
  • Invest in pet insurance to cover any medical bills.
  • Get your cat microchipped, just in case they go missing.

In this case, Jack was just watching the chaos unfold from afar. In the comments section, TikTok users have praised him for being a good neighborhood watch cat.

One user posted: "He's keeping a proper eye out while we await authorities."

Another wrote: "So glad he's bundled up to handle this situation."

"A concerned citizen," commented a third.

A third comment read: "He is an empath."

Others have questioned his name, the cat's owner told Newsweek: "He's named after the poet Jack Spicer, who said his poems came from Martians through radio waves.

"I feel like cats have thoughts like this," the owner added.

Indeed, Spicer the Hollywood-born poet said "he received his poems and outside forces dictated them," according to Allpoetry.com. The forum adds: "His controversial theories of dictation metaphorically reduce him to a 'radio,' picking up signals from the 'invisible' world, and indeed he sometimes joked that his poetry was really written by 'Martians.'"
