Rocky Peak Fire: Wildfire Erupts Near 118 Freeway Near Santa Susana Pass in Simi Valley, California

UPDATE: 2:01 p.m. EDT—The Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD) requested the closure of the 118 Freeway both eastbound and westbound in response to the Rocky Fire. The department also asked for assistance in the form of fixed-wing aircraft and air tankers.

Yet another fire erupted in California on Monday, this time near the 118 Freeway at Rocky Peak in Simi Valley, the Ventura County Fire Department (VCFD) said.

Multiple departments were responding to the fire. It was not immediately clear whether any structures were threatened.

California is dealing with the devastation from multiple other fires burning in the state, including the Camp Fire, which has killed 29 people after breaking out in Butte County on Thursday. The fire burned through 110,000 acres as of Monday, destroying more than 6,000 homes in the process.
