Roseanne Barr Blasts Backlash After MAGA Event

Roseanne Barr has hit back at her critics after a video clip of her delivering a bizarre speech at a political event over the weekend went viral on social media.

While making an appearance at Turning Point USA's AmericaFest, a four-day event that concluded on Tuesday in Phoenix, the comedian predicted that she would be placed "in a gulag" should Donald Trump fail in his bid to be reelected at next year's presidential election.

In clips shared on X, formerly Twitter, Barr said on Saturday: "I'm all in for President Trump. I just wanna say that, I'm just all in... Because I know if I ain't all in they're going to put my a** in a gulag. If he loses I know what they're gonna do."

"And I don't wanna go to a reeducation camp and have to give all my money to a bunch of losers that never know how [to] get a job. I don't care about them," she went on. "If we don't stop these horrible communists, do you hear me? I'm asking you to hear me."

"Stalinist! Communists! With a huge helping of Nazi fascist thrown in, plus wanting the caliphate to replace every Christian democracy on Earth. Now. Occupy. Do you know that?" Barr added, as the crowd's reaction went from raucous cheers to apparent stunned silence.

When part of Barr's speech was shared on social media, it attracted more than 2 million views. It was also met with a wave of derision and criticism as X users chimed in on Barr's impassioned delivery.

On Monday, Barr addressed the commentary on her speech, writing in response to an X post that quoted the "caliphate" part of her speech: "Translation for those unaware of how it works: 'Roseanne is crazy' means 'Roseanne was right again.'"

"When the corporate news backs me up then I'll worry, until then I am gonna keep blowing minds baby!" she added.

The TV personality also attracted attention for a photo she posted of herself posing alongside Jacob Chansley, also known as QAnon Shaman, who became one of the most prominent figures in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

Responding to the photo—which Barr captioned "New couple alert!!"—a detractor wrote: "Roseanne Barr solidifies her place as a disgusting person in history and will not be remembered for her c***** jokes, but will be remembered for her downward spiral and how she stood on the wrong side of American history."

"Thanks hun!" Barr hit back in a tongue-in-cheek response.

Meanwhile, Barr explained to her X followers that she was forced to "wing it" with her speech after a mishap saw all of her preparation go down the drain.

"I cannot believe I accidentally deleted my speech when making my last edit just before walking out," she said on Sunday. "I had to wing it last night, it was so scary. But I'm glad you guys liked it!"

Elsewhere in her speech, Barr said that she wants "the truth," before slamming both the Republican and Democratic parties, accusing them of "stealing us blind."

"We deserve to hear the truth. That's what we want. We want the truth," she told the crowd. "We don't care which party is wrong, we know they're both nothing but c***. They're both on the take. They're both stealing us blind.

"We just want the truth about everything that we fought and died and suffered to protect. We want the truth. Because we deserve it, and we deserve to have an election with paper ballots, and with proper identification to prove that you are a citizen of this country and that the public's money shall heretofore belong to the public."

Earlier this year, Barr returned to the spotlight with her stand-up special Roseanne Barr: Cancel This!. Barr said that she was essentially banished from Hollywood in May 2018, after she tweeted that the "Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby," referring to Valerie Jarrett, a former senior adviser to former President Barack Obama, who is Black.

Barr said at the time that she wouldn't have tweeted the joke had she known Jarrett was Black, and that she would have apologized on air, but ABC decided to fire her from her show, Roseanne, before she could. The network brought the show back as The Connors, with the comedian's lead character killed off.

TV personality Barr had been a staunch progressive earlier in her career, once protesting at an Occupy Wall Street rally and running for president first for the Green Party and later the Peace and Freedom Party. In 2016, she voted for Trump.

When asked this month by Newsweek why, in the face of mounting scrutiny and backlash, Barr continues to publicly share her political takes, the comedian responded: "It's important for me to keep speaking because I can't let the f****** win. That's why."
