Roseanne Barr said she was "leaving Twitter" on Wednesday after receiving a wave of criticism over racists tweets she posted about former Obama-era aide Valerie Jarrett. However, it seems that Barr is still on Twitter and actively tweeting, and some of her latest angry tweets were directed at her own former TV-children, Sara Gilbert and Michael Fishman, who played Darlene and DJ Conner, respectively.
Both Gilbert and Fishman took to Twitter on Wednesday to not only condemn the racist comments Barr made about Jarrett, President Barack Obama's former Director of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs, and business magnate George Soros, but also to explain that other members of the Roseanne cast and crew did not adhere to Barr's prejudiced rhetoric.
Fishman wrote a lengthy statement explaining he was "devastated not for the end of the Roseanne show, but for all those who poured their hearts and souls into our jobs, and the audience that welcomed us into their homes." The 36-year-old went on to "condemn" Barr's statement's "vehemently."
"I have always lived and taught my children to be inclusive. I believe our show strived to embrace different backgrounds and opinions, through open dialogue," he wrote. "While I am going to miss being part of the ABC family, I believe that to sit back, or remain silent in an attempt to distance myself from the actions/statements of others would unintentionally endorse or placate those statements which I find truly offensive."
After the show was canceled on Wednesday by ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey, who said Barr's comments were "abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values," Barr directed her Twitter storm at former members of the Roseanne cast and blasted them for their lack of support.
Barr, 65, responded to Fishman early Wednesday morning, claiming that it was because of her that they even had a show to display inclusivity in the first place. "I created the platform for that inclusivity and you know it. ME. You throw me under the bus. Nice!" she wrote.
As for Gilbert, who said she was "disappointed" by the comments made, Barr responded with: "Wow! Unreal."
