In Britain, the odds on the name and date birth of a royal baby receive as much attention as the event itself.

This year is no different and with Meghan Markle due to give birth in the coming weeks, speculations over the baby's name continue to grow.

The sex of the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry's first child is not yet known, but bookmakers believe it will be a girl.

Diana is the favorite name by some distance, amid suggestions Prince Harry will pick the name to honor the memory of his late mother, Lady Diana.

Paddy Power has Diana to be the name of choice at 3/1 (+300 in moneyline terms), while BetVictor offers it at 6/1 and William Hill, Coral and bet365 all have it at 8/1.

Victoria is the second-favorite name, with odds of 8/1 and 10/1 at Coral and William Hill respectively, while bet365 has it at 12/1 and Paddy Power at 14/1.

While the name evokes memory of Queen Victoria, it was last used for a woman belonging to the House of Windsor in 1868 for Princess Victoria, the fourth child of Edward VII and Alexandra of Denmark.

The chances of the baby being called Elizabeth after its paternal great grandmother are longer. BetVictor has it at 14/1, while William Hill and bet365 both offer it at 16/1, although Coral bucks the trend with much shorter odds at 6/1.

Should the baby be a boy, meanwhile, Arthur and James are the two favorites.

The former was last used in the House of Windsor in 1883 for Prince Arthur of Connaught, a grandson of Queen Victoria, and is at 12/1 with bet365 and BetVictor, while Paddy Power and William Hill have it at 14/1.

The prospect of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex naming a boy after his paternal great grandfather, Prince Philip, stand at 10/1 with bet365 and BetVictor and 16/1 with William Hill.

The chances of him being named after Prince Charles have so far divided opinions among bookmakers. Paddy Power and BetVictor consider it a 13/1 and 16/1 possibility, while bet365 has it at 28/1 and William offers it at 50/1.

In terms of long shots, the most optimistic punters can have a flutter on Theresa at 200/1.

Given the way Prime Minister Theresa May has handled Brexit, however, the chances of the baby being named after her appear even more remote than those of Britain reaching a deal before the deadline imposed by the European Union.

Similarly, Donald stands at 500/1.

In terms of date, meanwhile, Paddy Power has odds of 2/1 on the Duchess giving birth the week beginning on April 22. The odds of the baby being born the following week are 3/1, while odds of the baby arriving the week beginning on May 6 are as long as 6/1.

Odds on the baby arriving on April 21, which would see the latest Royal Family member share the birthday with the Queen, are at 7/1.
