San Francisco Shootout: Everything We Know About the Barbershop Gunfight That Terrified a Neighborhood

A police officer is among six people, including a suspect and a juvenile, injured following at a shootout at a San Francisco barbershop in broad daylight.

San Francisco police officers were originally called to reports of man with a gun in 200 block of Amazon Avenue. During the investigation, officers went into the Amazon Barber Shop on the corner of Geneva Avenue and London Street, where shots were then exchanged around 4:30 p.m. local time.

Several pedestrians, including schoolchildren, were in the area as the late afternoon shooting broke out.

One police officer was injured after being shot in the leg and was taken to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital for treatment. He is currently in a stable condition. Two others injured during the shootout, including the suspect, are currently in critical condition after suffering life-threatening injuries.

Two others received non-life-threatening injuries during the shooting, police said.

Ed Nasrah, owner of Daniel's Pharmacy, which is adjacent to the barbershop, said he heard at least 20 to 25 shots being fired.

"I couldn't believe what was happening," he told the San Francisco Gate. "I've never experienced something like this before, and I've been here 30 years. We have had shootings before, but never in broad daylight or during business hours. It was scary."

Supervisor Ahsha Safaí described the Amazon Barber Shop where the shooting occurred as a "a great family-run business."

He added: "I want people to know the neighborhood is safe and that barbershop has never been a problem at all. A lot of my strongest constituents frequent that place."

A statement from SFPD said: "This is an active and ongoing investigation in the early stages. Investigations are being conducted by the San Francisco Police Department's Homicide Detail, the San Francisco District Attorney's Independent Investigations Bureau, the Department of Police Accountability and the SFPD Internal Affairs Division.

"Anyone with information is asked to call the SFPD 24 Hour Tip Line at (415) 575-4444 or Text-A-Tip to TIP411 and begin the text message with SFPD. You may remain anonymous.

"Additional information will be released as it becomes available. A town hall meeting regarding this officer involved shooting will be held within ten days."
