'Sea of Thieves' Kraken Guide: Finding and Battling the Deadliest Monster in the Ocean

The legendary Kraken is the deadliest enemy in "Sea of Thieves." Here's how to find the monster's location and kill it.

Enemies in Sea of Thieves typically come on two legs. Most enemies are either part of the shambling undead skeleton horde, or other players looking to steal your stuff. However, the strongest enemy in Sea of Thieves doesn't have legs at all, and can be incredibly hard to find. Finding and killing a Kraken in Sea of Thieves sounds straightforward enough, but both of those tasks are surprisingly difficult. If you and your crew are feeling up to the challenge, you'll want to follow these steps.

Step 1: How to Find a Kraken in Sea of Thieves

According to USGamer, players can't pinpoint a Kraken's exact location. Instead, the Kraken finds you. This means wandering aimlessly until the terrible sea beast makes an appearance. We recommend players stick to deeper water for the Kraken, because the giant monster will probably have a hard time swimming in water close to islands.

While it's annoying Krakens cannot be hunted down, it does add to the drama when one finally makes an appearance.

Step 2: Battling the Kraken: How To Fight The Monster And Win

Kraken combat starts at around the one-minute mark in the video above. Warning: Strong language used in the video.

Once you finally find a Kraken, prepare for the toughest fight you've had in Sea of Thieves. The Kraken will start its attack by lifting several tentacles straight up out of the water. Once this happens, get everyone in your crew to start attacking the same tentacle. You'll need to "kill" all the tentacles before the Kraken is dead.

To attack, pretty much throw everything you can at each tentacle. This means shooting your cannon and guns at them when they are far away, and when the tentacles slam down onto your ship's deck, hack at them with your swords. USGamer points out that tentacles are weakest at the tips, so hit there for the most damage.

The Kraken can pick up and throw players out into the ocean, or slam them back down onto the deck of boat for massive damage. The Kraken can also damage ships, meaning you'll need a member of your crew to stay below deck repairing any holes and bailing out water.

The Kraken can also squirt ink at players, making it hard to see.

Step 3: Kraken Rewards: Loot and Achievements For Killing the Beast

So you managed to find a Kraken and not only escape, but slay the beast. Time for all sorts of gold and loot, right? Wrong! It looks like the only reward given to players who kill a Kraken is the "Kraken Good Time" achievement. It's only worth 15 Gamerscore too, so it's not even a big one. That kind of sucks, but at least you had fun, right?
